Holiday Food Made Fun and Healthy

What are some easy ways to keep your holiday eating plans in check while still having fun? It can be done! Surprisingly holiday weight gain is as much caused by lowered activity levels as it is by eating that holiday turkey!
Enjoy the festivities but start with a game plan!
Here are my most favorite ways to mix it up….
- Incorporate bright and colorful food! Chartuterie boards can be a great way to get creative with raw fruits & Â vegetables https://www.tasteofhome.com/collection/charcuterie-board-ideas/
- Create new food item traditions. Try a new & unique side dish recipe based on a vegetable. Here’s a link to 60 colorful, plant-based recipes to try from Julia’s Album, one of my favorite Colorado food bloggers who lives in Durango! https://juliasalbum.com/thanksgiving-side-dishes/. One year we tried the asparagus with blue cheese, and it is now a holiday staple!
- Think about portion sizes! Eat the pumpkin pie but cut the portion by half. Taste foods that are rich but don’t make a snack or an entire meal out them.
- Stay active! Consistent, daily activity can keep appetite & blood glucose levels in check and outdoor exercise in the winter can help provide much needed Vitamin D! Use your smart watch to track how many calories you are burning when you exercise as a way to help moderate your food intake. It is always easier to eat the calories than to burn the calories.
- Be willing to ask for help! Working with us at RMFP, we can give you personalized recommendation and tools, based on your medical needs, that can help you make a plan to enjoy a fun holiday season, so that you can transition into January 2026 on track with your health and fitness goals
